Background

The Boathouse Youth Group is a Registered UK Charity (1149320) that works with children and young people in Blackpool. Many of the children are facing disadvantages and in some cases it’s safe to say the children are suffering from deprivation.

The Boathouse provides a variety of educational and recreational activities to build confidence, restore self-esteem, and bring happiness to the lives of its young members. This was a cause that we knew we wanted to help with straight away.

The members of the Boathouse often only use the facility in the evenings so one issue the charity was facing was showing potential donors the real feel of the place when it was empty.

We needed to help them find a way of portraying what the centre was like when it was full of life. The Boathouse usually has over 400 admissions every week and needs to raise over £300,000 annually in funding to keep going.

The Project

We initially spoke to the client about new graphics for their minibus. Then once we got talking in more detail they mentioned how much they had liked one of our recent historical timeline graphic installations at a local school. The Boathouse needed to bring their walls to life, especially the ones up the stairs leading up to the offices in the centre. Not only would this change the dynamic and feel of the place for its young members and potential donors, it would have a positive impact on the staff too.

We began with the partial vehicle wrap job and then got to work on the wall graphics project.

The Boathouse were able to provide us with lots of images to work with and some pre-printed literature. Our design team took these and created some superb visuals. After a few requested tweaks we were ready to go to print.

Before the installation we had to take detailed measurements as the graphics needed to start on a flat wall and run up a stairwell wall, so getting the angles right when producing the vinyl was vital.

The Outcome

To begin the installation we prepped the wall with Metamark UK Ltd silver bullet wall primer and then applied the prints which are on the MD5A+ matt laminate finish. The end result as you can see was excellent and completely transformed the space.

“Great job Carl and everyone else from Links Signs and Graphics Ltd. It completely changes the whole feel of that space, and what a fantastic thing for everyone to see as they enter our building. First impressions really do make a difference!”

Benjamin Wilson, Head of Operations at The Boathouse Youth Charity

“Cracking job for The Boathouse Youth Charity. The whole lot looks amazing… I think we’ve got the bug now, so you can expect our return custom in the near future!”

Laurance Hancock, Chief Executive at The Boathouse Youth
